Praise for Muy Bueno

“Drawing from their successful blog of the same name, Texan matriarch Soza and daughters Marquez-Sharpnack and Gonzalez-Smith share over 100 Mexican recipes—many of which the trio attributes to Soza’s mother, Jesusita—in this informative and accessible collection. Featuring the requisite basics like red chili sauce, Pico de Gallo, guacamole, and homemade corn or flour tortillas, the book is categorized according to generations: Jesusita’s “old-world” recipes from Northern Mexico, like beef tongue or asado de chile Colorado, are imparted via her daughter; Soza provides plenty of “south of the border home-style dishes,” such as green chiles with beef and potatoes; and Marquez-Sharpnack and Gonzalez-Smith offer Latin fusion selections, including everything from poblano peppers stuffed with cheese and shrimp to sweet fried bread smothered in caramel, mangos, and strawberries. But any Mexican cookbook would be incomplete without tacos and margaritas—accordingly, the ladies supply several options, such as tacos made with beef brisket or pork rinds, and a suite of margaritas made with blood oranges, cranberries, or persimmon. Though certainly accessible to those unaccustomed to Mexican cooking—dishes like a mango, jicama, and cucumber salad or the pan-fried tilapia topped with mango and avocado salsa are remarkably simple to prepare—those looking to expand their Mexican culinary repertoire will likely get the most out of this creative and flavorful cookbook.”
—Publishers Weekly

“Charming family stories combined with richly colorful photos to make this a delightful invitation to cooking.”
—Michele Kayal, Associated Press

“I have always been fascinated with how the foods of northern Mexico joined with the foods of the southern United States to invent a whole new world of culinary possibilities. Cooks from both sides of the border have been creating a delicious, exciting cuisine for the past couple hundred years. The women of Muy Bueno have some fantastic stories and recipes about this. Wow—I truly enjoyed reading it and can’t wait to start cooking!”
—Roberto Santibañez, chef-owner of Fonda restaurants in NYC and author of Truly Mexican and Tacos, Tortas, and Tamales

“It’s hard for me to remain neutral about the tales and recipes of Muy Bueno. You see, their stories are my stories, just like many of us whose grandparents came from Chihuahua to Texas and beyond. But you needn’t have an abuelita who blessed generations by handing down her recipes–all you need is the love and spirit that Yvette, Veronica and Evangelina have filled within the pages of this book. Packed with authentic regional recipes, beautiful stories and gorgeous photographs, Muy Bueno is above all else a delicious family love story.”
—Matt Armendariz, and author of On a Stick! and Focus On Food Photography for Bloggers

“This wonderful cookbook is filled with vibrant pictures and authentic Mexican recipes that are easy to make too! I just hope that one of these ladies invites me over for dinner some day!”
—George Duran, celebrity chef

“Every page invites the reader to step into the richness of Mexican culture, defined by exquisite food and lots of love. To see family recipes – both traditional and contemporary – recreated with so much care is a joy.

I personally look forward to making Muy Bueno’s recipes for my own family.”
—Nina Terrero, Web Producer – NBC Latino

Muy Bueno is a gorgeous collection and celebration of exciting Mexican recipes rooted in touching family stories and tradition.”
—Todd Porter and Diane Cu,

“If you love Mexican comfort food and fantastic photography, you need Muy Bueno on your kitchen bookshelf.”
—Jorge Bravo,

“I’m cooking my way through Muy Bueno and amazing my family and friends with fresh, authentic Mexican home cooking. The magic of this book lies in recipes that weave down through the generations of their family . . . My tip: start with Grandma’s handmade flour tortilla recipe and pair it with three generations of salsa recipes: from Jesusita’s House Salsa all the way to Yvette’s nuevo Mushroom, Jalapeno and Cilantro Salsa.”
—Jaden Hair, and author of The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook

Muy Bueno is a masterpiece filled with authentic recipes paired with beautiful photography! Easily the most important ingredient for your traditional cooking journey!”
