Which recipe to pick? It is really hard for me to decide between the Rolled Taquitos with Ground Beef or the Capirotada because both vividly remind me of my childhood growing up in the Hatch/Las Cruces /El Paso area. Who doesn’t love Chico’s and who can forget have delicious Capirotada during Lent? I can smell the both as I write…

The best part is that recipes are born from rich family traditions and they personally take me back to the area I grew up in , back to my own family memories , gatherings and heritage . Crazy for this güera to feel so much like a Latina? I grew up from age 4 within the Nevarez family-my stepdad’s family- and they are a big part of my childhood and influenced me heavily. From speaking Spanish, to craving fideos, papas, frijoles and arroz, that is what I know and where I find my comfort in life.

All the recipes make me smile and I am so proud that someone has captured the flavors and traditions of that region in a way that honors the people that are definitely the heart and soul of that area!

Hi Colleen, WE are so glad you found our blog too! Thank you for all the lovely compliments and we are so glad that you could connect to some of our recipes. WE love it when what we treasure so much from our time in El Paso can be felt and remembered by others…you’ll have to try to make the recipes yourself “guera” and let us know how they turn out. Stay in touch…besos!!!

Will you be coming to Austin, TX or anywhere in South Texas for a book signing? I would love to go if you have one. I am also originally from El Paso and miss the food and the Hatch chiles :)

Hi Aurora, as of this moment we don’t have plans to visit Austin, but you never know what might happen in the next couple of weeks. We miss our family in El Paso and the chiles from Hatch too. Thanks for stopping by our blog. Come back again.
