Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Are you looking for a festive way to celebrate Christmas and ring in the new year? Then look no further than this poinsettia punch recipe!
Made with cranberry juice, orange liqueur, champagne, orange slices, and fresh cranberries, this Christmas cocktail is sweet and fizzy with a bit of tang. Perfect for holiday parties on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve!
I make this punch for holiday parties and it is always a hit. This year I plan to double the recipe because it goes quickly. The taste is similar to a mimosa, but made with cranberry juice and orange-flavored liqueur making this cocktail impressive, and oh so fabulous and festive with the frozen orange slices and cranberries floating in the punch bowl.
When you’re hosting a big party, you may not want to spend time mixing a drink for each guest. What’s a busy host or hostess to do? Serve this champagne punch recipe, of course! Why wait till midnight to pop open the champagne? Serve this punch and enjoy the bubbly all night long!
Ingredients
You only need five ingredients to make this delicious Christmas punch!
- Two oranges sliced, for garnish
- Fresh cranberries, for garnish
- Chilled cranberry juice (100% pure juice)
- Chilled orange-flavored liqueur like Cointreau or Grand Marnier
- Two bottles of chilled brut sparkling wine, cava, or champagne
How To Make It
Place the orange slices and cranberries in a single layer on a baking sheet or dish and freeze for about an hour until solid.
When it’s time to serve the poinsettia punch, place the cranberry juice and orange flavored liqueur in the punch bowl and stir to combine. Add the sparkling wine, cava, or champagne.
Float the frozen orange slices and cranberries in the punch, and serve immediately in your favorite holiday glasses. (I am obsessed with these coupe glasses.) Enjoy!
Tips and Variations
- Place your punch bowl in the freezer or refrigerator to chill while the fruit is freezing. This is my secret for helping the Christmas punch stay colder longer. Helps to do the same for your ladle, too!
- Use any fruit you like! Other sliced citrus like blood oranges, grapefruit, or lemons would work great; as would pineapple rings.
Storage Suggestions
This Christmas punch is best served fresh on the day you plan to serve, but you could freeze the fruit and combine the juices with the liqueur ahead of time (up to 24 hours).
Just wait to serve with champagne so the poinsettia punch doesn’t lose its carbonation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Technically, you don’t have to, but I highly recommend it! Not only does this method help the holiday punch stay colder longer, but it also helps prevent the fruit becoming pulpy in the liquid.
This recipe yields roughly 8 servings, but it can easily be doubled or tripled to serve a thirsty Christmas or New Year’s crowd!
Absolutely! Simply omit the alcohol and serve with sparkling grape juice. Kids love it!

Question regarding the actual number of oranges….as I read the ingredients list I see 8 2 oranges, sliced for garnish. WHAT 8 2 oranges!!! Please enlighten me as to the actual number of oranges needed….I don’t have an orange grove near me and not sure my green grocer would understand me purchasing 8 2 oranges. So enjoy the back story for the recipes you share with us.
Jonna, thank you for making me chuckle this morning. Sorry for the typo. Rest assured you only need TWO oranges. No need to visit an orange grove. LOL! Feliz Navidad.
