Mexican Chocolate Fondue {and Pottery Giveaway} |
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to the bottom to see who won!***
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Do you have any romantic plans? We love to stay home and treat ourselves to a fancy dinner (with the kids) in our home. Yes, how things have changed since parenthood, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My family loves dipping foods, whether it’s chocolate fondue or chips and salsa, because it’s just more fun that way. There’s nothing more fun (and romantic) than dipping luscious strawberries into thick, rich, hot chocolate — Two lusciously sexy flavors when combined.
This recipe makes enough to serve you and your special someone — making this the perfect romantic dessert for two. If you have kids like we do then you might need to double the recipe or make babysitting arrangements.
Ingredients
1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1 3.3 ounce tablet Mexican chocolate (recommend Ibarra or Abuelita), chopped
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (optional for thicker chocolate)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons coffee flavored liqueur (recommend Kahlua or Frangelico) (optional)
Dippers
Strawberries
Apples
Mango
Pineapple
Papaya
Star fruit
Banana
Raspberries
Blackberries
Kiwi
Pan dulce
Marshmallows
Directions
Heat 1/2 cup cream in a heavy saucepan over medium heat until cream comes to a low boil. Remove the pan from the heat and add Mexican chocolate. Let chocolate sit in the hot cream 3 to 5 minutes to soften, and then whisk chocolate together with the cream. Stir in butter, cocoa powder (optional), vanilla, cinnamon, and liqueur (optional).
Transfer to a fondue pot; keep warm, stirring occasionally. If fondue becomes too thick, stir in more cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, to desired consistency.
Arrange your favorite dippers around your chocolate fondue with fondue forks or bamboo skewers, for dipping.

i received a gorgeous box with home-made cookies in them last year for Valentine’s…. yummy and fabulous!
The chocolate lava cakes are my favoriteeven though I have not had them in a while. A nice memory would be of my husband cooking a nice meal. It was very romantic.
Yum! This is the perfect Valentine’s Day treat! I don’t have many specific vday food memories, but back in college, I made a huge batch of heart-shaped sugar cookies with different colored icings and brought them to the guy I was dating…he shared with his roommates. They were hands-down THE best sugar cookies ever and (of course) I lost the recipe and have been trying to locate it ever since. Um. 16 years and still no luck
Thanks for the chance!!
17 yrs ago I received flowers without a name for the person who sent them. 4 yrs later I got engaged to that person. These events took place on Valentine’s Day. Those are good memories for me.
We didn’t have much money so I made a special dinner for 2. I set up a table for 2 with candles and all in my bedroom (could be any room set for privacy). When my husband came home from work he was welcomed and seated at the table by the maitre d. (daughter). The girls served our dinner and dessert. There was enough they had their own dinner.
One of my favorite valentine youth memory is when I was about 10 yrs old. My mom came home from work (3 shift) to make my sister and I, a valentine out of construction paper and taped a pin on the back for us to wear to school that day. I still have this 40+ year old paper heart and treasure it!!
Another favorite was in my 20′s ( I wasn’t dating anyone at the time) my dad gave me a beautiful porcelain rose, so I would always have a rose from someone who loves me. I look at this rose often now that he has passed away.
Enjoy! xo
My husband takes me out for sushi on Valentine’s day. Even though he hates going, he know I absolutely love it! He’s truly my sweetheart!
My favorite fruits to dip are peaches and strawberries, but any fruit goes great with chocolate. A nice romantic treat for me is soft music, candlelight, fruit, chocolate and of course, champagne!
My favorite memories are of the beautiful handmade cards my special man makes for me every year. They are always different & have pictures of things that we both love – such as food
& flowers & memories together. I’ll treasure them forever.
Your pictures are so beautiful!!! My fondest memory was when I lived in Puerto Rico and my now husband was living in California. I made him a Valentine’s basket with a lot of yummy treats and put balloons in the box as well so when he opened it the balloons will come out…I also included a Huge chocolate kiss which he loved. My mom just remember the huge kiss and she just sent us one!!!
thanks for the opportunity to enter your yummy giveaway!!!
best regards,
Wanda
My husband eat Indian our first night as a married couple so we always eat Indian on special occasions! So curry is our food of love, lol. Love the idea of mango nd chocolate!
My favorite Valentine memory will always be going to a birthday party for our very good friend, Tom, whose birthday is Feb. 14. Bon Appetit magazine had a fabulous, heart-shaped chocolate cake on the cover for its February issue. I spent a lot of money on all the Belgian chocolate called for in the recipe. I put this beautiful (and expensive) cake on the floor of the car in a large metal basin. You can guess what happened. Even though I had told my husband where I had put the cake to transport it to the party, he jumped in the car, and put both boots in the cake. I burst into tears. Our friends consoled me, and — I am embarrassed to say — repaired the cake as best they could and served it! It was wonderful, and we still laugh about this.

I loe anything chocolate for Valentines — chocolate covered strawberries, or any combination of chocolate and nuts. The darker, the better.
When my girls were little, they loved to make valentines. Then at dinner we would exchange valentines with each other. Now that they are teenagers they still exchange valentines with each other. That is my best Valentine’s Day Memory.
Chocolate!!! I´m easy like that
I´m going to woo my husband, who´s not into Valentine´s at all, with this treat!
Love the photos. Very appealing. The pottery is beautiful and the recipes are to die for. Thanks again Muy Bueno for all the fun and delicious recipes. Sharron links
my soft spot is for chocolate ganache, rich and thick!
love the platings, very cute and stunning photography too!
I remember going out for a Valentine’s Day dinner date with my now husband while we were still in college at NYU. It was freezing cold out. He took me to a favorite college hangout in Greenwich Village and bought me a rose. (We were poor students so one rose then was the equivalent of a dozen long stems now.) As we were walking to the car after dinner the cold got to my little Korean deli rose and the flower fell off the stem. At first I was sad but then we realized how funny it was and we laughed and laughed. No Valentine’s day dinner has ever matched that one for me.
When my daughter was little my husband took me to a very fancy restaurant, even though money was tight. We had chocolate souffle and wine. I will always remember that dinner as being romantic and feeling very indulged, even if it was only for a few hours.
My favorite Valentine’s Day dessert is Red Velvet Cake w/ cream cheese frosting; homemade is the best!
I would have to say that I’m very old fashioned when it comes to Valentine’s Day.. I’m a happy girl with chocolates, flowers and a card… Being the card (from hubby) the most precious one since I’ve only gotten 1 in 8 years we’ve been married.
Beautiful pics!!
i met my husband 5 years ago on valentine’s day, its a very special day
Making Valentine’s Boxes for school was always so much fun. A neighborhood project for all the girls. We would get together and help each other. Great memories.
And my Valentine’s Days have gotten so much better with the invention of Reese’s Hearts.

Anything with chocolate for my husband, anything with lemon for me!!
I like chocolates.
SUSHI!!!
I’m not going to enter the giveaway because I’m not in the US. I just want to say that this looks amazing, Those pictures gave me a craving for something sweet and sinful, hehe.
my favorite food for valentine’s day is chocolate covered fruit, specially grapes and strawberries! i love your pictures =)
My favorite Valentine’s memory is last years dinner. We went out as a big group with all my bestfriends. We had so much fun laughing and goofing around all mite long. We ended up at the movies.

My favorite food for valentine’s day is the chocolate cake
Valentine’s Day was my grandmother’s birthday, my fondest memories for the day were treating grandma to a dinner out with our family. She was always baking and cooking and this was a nice break for her. Grandma would make chocolate dipped strawberries sometimes too
Wow, does that chocolate look good!
I plan to make chiles rellenos for Valentine’s Day this year because, while my love for various men has come and gone, my love for chiles rellenos goes on and on…
Well, it was not the greatest Valentine’s Day gift…my husband(who would soon become the ex) brought me a lovely box of chocolate caramels…I was having oral surgery the next day and couldn’t eat anything except liquids for 3 days….Thanks, honey…LOL – it’s funny now, 20 years later…
To me nothing says I love you on Valentines Day like a drive down the Baja Norte coast for a dinner of carnitas, margaritas and a troupe of mariachis.
my best Valentine’s Day memory is with my kids and me, when they were lil, making cards, and cookies for friends and family…then we all dressed in red and became delivery cupids, lol <3
I grew up on Mexican chocolate whether bought from store or made from scratch. It got so I couldn’t and still can’t tolerate American chocolate very much. I prefer the taste of Mexican chocolate more.
Memories of Mama making chocolatl on cold nights, especially after a long, long day at the cotton fields or the cold harvesting of berries in Washington and Oregon. Hot, steaming tazas of chocolatl.
Now, nothing better than Abuelita for a night of movies or friends over for a visit.
My best Valentines was when I was in my early twenties and not dating anybody at the time. All my friends had dates and I was feeling kind of left out. Then the bell rings and it is a telegram (one of those candygrams) from an old friend that I had not seen since the end of high school. Even though we did not married (although we came close) I remember this as my best, unexpected Valentine’s day!
Favorite V-day included massage and brunch with my now boyfriend. Back then we were just dating and in the “wooing” process
While in first grade, I recall painstaking crossing out my friends names on our class lists & choosing each candy heart carefully to have it say the right thing to each classmate. Then I came down with the chicken pox & had to be out for two weeks. I missed my birthday, February 12, and the privilege of being the teacher’s helper that day. I also missed out on the awesome chocolate cupcakes my teacher promised us for our Valentine’s Day Party. Then two weeks after that, my brother was born. My life got REAL complicated after that!
Life is less complicated now that my brother & I are good friends in our 30s and now it didn’t take me THAT long to grow up. He almost exclusively babysits my son on semi-regular basis.
My favorite valentine treat… Homemade valentine from my daughter and then she took me out to dinner… after my ex and I separated. She wanted it to be special.
My favorite Valentine’s meal is one that I don’t have to prepare. LOL Truth: My honey and I spent all day all alone, enjoying our company, and ending the day with chocolate fondue and a variety of fruits.
valentines day 1995 – WORST EVER!!! our 2′nd married Valentine’s Day together and WHAT does my hubby do? rings the doorbell at 6pm – I open the door to see who’s there and it’s my husband – holding a squealing, dirty, baby pot-bellied PIG saying “Happy Valentine’s!” to which i replied, “Oh NO! That is NOT for ME!” wherewith I promptly SLAMMED the door shut and walked back into the kitchen to finish fixing dinner. LOL i can laugh now but at the time i was VERY upset. We kept the pig – but i refused to have anything to do with it for all the years that we had it.

Fondue is always great for a romantic day like Valentine’s Day. I like savory, cheesy ones the best, but chocolate is always nice too. One of my favorite Valentine’s Day dinners was a Shabu-Shabu at a fancy restaurant. That was wonderful and a fun way to have an intimate dinner.
Valentine’s Day 23 years ago, my boyfriend (now husband) Jack cooked up a wonderful dinner for just the two of us…..I don’t remember what it was exactly, I just remember it was amazing that he took the time to cook it!……no one had ever done that for me before……
I’m not a big fan of V-day because I think love & friendship should be celebrated everyday .. with that being said, my favorite V-Day memory would be when I was a little girl and my dad would get a bouquet of flowers for my mom and a smaller bouquet for me… I was so excited.. Maybe that’s why I’m not such a big fan, nobody can top my dad <3
I made homemade pecan chocolate chip cookies, and drizzled them with melted chocolate. They were loaded with butter, and just delicious! I gave them to Curtis, and that same Valentine evening, he asked me to marry him…We will be married 6 years this March 12th.
i like cupcakes. all kinds..all flavors

My favorite Valentine’s memory was with an ex-boyfriend who always came up with clever and romantic dates. We were in graduate school together on a trip in Rome at the time. He took me to a restaurant called – i cuori… (the heart) They specialized in yummy artichoke heart dishes!! It was amazing. He put all this effort into finding us a restaurant that specialized in the “heart”.

My.favorite memory is I came home from work and I had a bouquet of flowers and a card my man had gotten me. It was our first Valentines day together and he took me to buy a beautiful ring, necklace and earring set. That was seven years ago. This year I plan to make cupcakes with our two sons and homemade valentines day cards.
